I've been a professional fishing guide since 1974 in Sarasota
Bay area, and am proficient in all types of fishing from light
tackle-back bay and fly-fishing to tarpon and offshore fishing.
- Host of WWSB-Ch7's "Gone Fishing with Capt. Jonnie Walker"
show, promoting taking kids fishing. "Take a kid fishing
because someday he may take you."
- Co-chair the Sarasota county Reef Committee. Was chairman of
the City Reef Committee before it joined with the county.
- Charter member of the CCA (formerly FCA) local chapter and served
as President in it's fifth year.
- Charter member of the Florida Guides Association
- Charter member of the Citizens Advisory Council of the Sarasota
Bay National Estuary Program
- Member of the Executive Board for the Snook Foundation
- Served 8 years on the Natural Resources and Parks and Recreation
Advisory Board
- Member of the Florida Marine Patrol Coastal Watch Program
- Has worked with Mote Marine Laboratory through out career of
guiding
- Recipient of the William R. Mote Florida Sport Fishing Guide
Award
- Created own 'de-hooker' tool so would not have to handle fish
to release them
- Donates fishing trips to many clubs and charity organizations
to raise funds
- Co-chairs the yearly fishing trip for the 'specially challenged'
people, and Special Olympics
- Gives free talks for various clubs and organizations in the
Sarasota Manatee Counties area on fishing, conservation and the
environment
